When inspired..
Write it down! I recently read a piece from a friend that immediately inspired me to open up a blank document and get to recording my own thoughts. It did not flow out in perfect prose, more like stop-motion chunks, yet it felt gratifying to actually pass the material from brain to existence in word-form in a seemingly natural way (instead of the straining and pushing for more words that plagues much of any writer’s existence. There is at least one bodily function analogy to be made here, but I will refrain from further detail).
Generally these compilations of words go nowhere but a saved folder full of fragmented titles, but I would liken this exercise to literal working out - it’s not for you to relive every minute of the session, but rather to be glad you exerted the muscles to get through it. All sum towards efforts toward building the foundation for an appropriate level of strength / writing fitness. Maybe some folks will reread their past bursts of inspiration and rebirth another burst, but so far I’ve only cringed and immediately closed the document. One day!
